Discover the bike and mountain bike circuits and a few suggestions for rides…
Come and rise to the mountain’s challenge with family or friends all year round!
The principle is simple: a timed and commented ascension of the montagne de Lure.
Starting from Etienne les Orgues, this 18-km climb with a height difference of 1000 metres and an average gradient of 5.8% goes through a wide range of landscapes and offers magnificent views over the pays de Forcalquier, the Durance valley and the Alps.
Rise to the challenge by downloading the free application Challenge de Lure on your smartphone (Apple and Android). If you do not have your own smartphone, you can hire one from the office de tourisme intercommunal in Saint Etienne les Orgues or time yourself manually.
When you launch the application, the timing is automatically triggered at the start and stops at the finish. Messages are displayed during the climb, and at the finish, your time is recorded and you can see your ranking and those of your friends on the Web site.
An experience which you can repeat all year round and share on the Challenge de Lure Facebook page… According to the snow cover, the road is accessible from mid-March to mid-November, and in summer, the cedar forest gives welcome shade.

A 78-km loop to discover Haute-Provence
From the high plains of Provence, you will see a variety of landscapes in an infinite range of colours, smells and atmospheres… To be able to work this land, the inhabitants have had to adapt typical crops: lavender, olives, honey, truffles, etc.
No need to keep your head down when you travel around the pays: there are lots of places to stop at in hotels and bed & breakfasts.
No need to go hungry, either: the Bistrots de Pays offer regional cuisine or a restorative snack…
N.B.: this is not a cycle path. This is a charming itinerary, on little roads which are also used by cars, so remember to follow the Highway Code!
Two possible itineraries:
- Grand tour: 8 hours – 78km
- Half tour with linkup itinerary: 4 hours – 44km
or download the Le_Pays_de_Forcalquier_Montagne_de_Lure_a_ velo leaflet in .pdf format
Around the Luberon by bike
A 236-km loop around the Luberon
Come and be tempted by a roam around the heart of the Luberon natural regional park, which has been preserved territory since 1977, and is recognized by Unesco as a « Biosphere Reserve » and a « Geopark ».
Through vales and over hills, discover on « secret » roads the landscapes of the Luberon and Haute-Provence: hilltop villages, « cabanons pointus », castles, ochre cliffs, vineyards, lavender and orchards.
The two-way marking offers an ideal itinerary for a day’s outing or for a week, with family or friends.
N.B.: the cycling itinerary follows small roads which are also used by cars. This is not a cycle path. Please respect the Highway Code!
